The monotone tick tack's clock song was kept in step with the tapping of her shoes, those whose were stamping, impatients. Checking the hour for the thousandth time, she adjusted her bombastic dress and she seethed. It still had remaining five minutes left. Five minutes left and then she would be able to get up from the chair and open the seven gifts whose where in the table.
In her family existed a curious tradition. In the birthdays, they could not open any present until midnight had passed. No one could celebrate it, no one could eat nothing until it had passed twelve o'clock. Yes, it was something really strange. It didn't make any sense. Because after midnight, technically the highly anticipated birthday day was over. However, it had been like that since always. Moreover, in that case, it was an especial celebration. Or at less, her parents told that to her. And that was why she consented to wear that stupid dress and wait patiently.
Finally, the clock announced the midnight.
-Happy birthday, darling.-her mother smiled.
-Congratulations, my dear.-said her father at the same time.
No one of them went to hug her, but she didn't mind about that. She got used to their strict and distant attitude a long time ago.
She got up impatiently from the chair and went to the table full of presents. Undecided, she didn't know with which one she could start first. Suddenly, her eyes saw the biggest of the seven gifts and she remembered that her parents insisted on it. It had to be the first one.
She took the box. It didn't seem really heavy. However, why was she so hesitant? She got closer her hand to the cover, decorated with a beautiful blue bow. She opened the cover and the room started to spin around her. The lights blurred the lines, the faces got confusing, and she felt that a tornado covered her and that she fell down in a kind of deep hole. In fact, it was as if the gift was absorbing her.
Everything stopped suddendly and she stumbled and was about to fell down. Those pair of damned shoes... Fortunelately, someone held she on time.
She raised up her head slowly and when she saw her, she got paralyzed. She couldn't believe it. There was a girl with a long dark hair and bright brown eyes like hers. Even she was wearing the same dress as hers. They were identicals. What did it mean? Was she her double, her clon? What was happening?!
-Happy birthday, dear sister. -said her with a smile. It was like looking in a mirror-I've been waiting for you for a long time. Fine, now you're here, so I finally can go to the surface. See you within seven years, sister.
Her twin pushed her away and she fell into the darkness.
Caught for seven years in that apparently innocent birthday present.
